چکیده

Background Multilevel significant atherosclerotic disease involving the carotid bifurcation and the proximal ipsilateral common carotid or brachiocephalic arteries presents an uncommon and difficult management problem. Axial (aortocarotid bypass) or extra-anatomic procedures (subclavian–carotid bypass, carotid–carotid bypass, carotid–subclavian transposition) and variations in the performance of thromboendarterectomies are all possibilities in treatment of tandem brachiocephalic arteries stenosis. Although extra-anatomic procedures have excellent patency (90% at 5 years) and durability and avoid the morbidity of median sternotomy, they are usually performed in patients with significant cardiovascular comorbidities who may be detrimentally affected because of the use of general anesthesia and the possible need of prosthetic devices and multiple incisions. The desire to avoid the need for intrathoracic and extra-anatomic reconstructions has fostered the use of transluminal angioplasty and primary stenting of the supra-aortic vessels. Combined or hybrid carotid procedures can offer an easier solution to a sometimes difficult technical problem.

Histomorphometric study of brachiocephalic artery of Japanese quail

Brachiocephalic arteries in quails are large arteries which are arising separately from the aortic arch. The aim of the present study was to determine the histomorphometric aspects of brachiocephalic arteries in the Japanese quail. The different layers of the brachiocephalic artery were studied quantitatively in 10, 20 and 60 days-old Japanese quail; (n = 6) and both sexes. Luminal diameter, th...

Hybrid Interventions in the Case of Combined Stenosis of the Carotid Bifurcations and Supra-Aortic Arteries.

OBJECTIVES The purpose of our study is to describe the technique, safety, and efficacy of hybrid carotid revascularization for the treatment of combined occlusive lesions of the carotid bifurcations and supra-aortic arteries. MATERIALS AND METHODS We monitored the results of hybrid surgical interventions including carotid endarterectomy (CEA) and stenting either the common carotid artery (CCA...

Simultaneous hybrid revascularization for symptomatic lower extremity arterial occlusive disease

Multilevel revascularization, using a combination of endovascular and open (hybrid) surgery, is increasingly being used. Hybrid surgery allows complex anatomy to be treated by minimally invasive procedures in medically high risk patients. The aim of the present study was to report a novel hybrid surgery for lesions in the multilevel lower extremity arteries and to evaluate the clinical outcomes...

Computed Tomographic Anatomy of the Thoracic Cavity Vessels in the Rayini Goat

Objectives- To provide a reference anatomy of the thoracic cavity vessels of the Rayini goat by using Computed tomography. Design- Experimented study. Animals- Five healthy Rayini goat. Procedures- Spiral CT images (with and without contrast media) were acquired from the thoracic region perpendicular to long axis of the body. CT windows were adjusted as necessary to have optimized images of ...

[Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty of the brachiocephalic arteries].

Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty was used to treat atherosclerotic lesions in 22 brachiocephalic arteries in 20 patients during a 2 1/2 year period. Seven subclavian, 13 vertebral, one external carotid, and one common carotid arteries were involved. Nineteen arteries were successfully dilated, but dilatation of two vertebral arteries and attempted recanalization of one subclavian artery fa...
